Atty. Magtibay’s primary areas of practice are litigation, arbitration, mediation, construction law, intellectual property, and sports and entertainment law.
He is presently the Executive Director and Deputy Secretary General of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (PDRC), Chair of its Secretariat Committee, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Sports Arbitration, Vice-Chair of the Mediation and Negotiation Committee, and part of the Rules Revision Committee.
He is a member of the Supreme Court of the Philippines’ Technical Working Group on Pleadings, Practice, and Procedure (TWG-PPP), focusing particularly on the revision of the Special Rules of Court on ADR.
He has represented clients in all court levels, including the Sandiganbayan and the Court of Tax Appeals, and in arbitrations with the PDRC and the Construction Industry Arbitration Commission (CIAC). He also serves as mediator and arbitrator in commercial and sports related disputes.
He is an MCLE lecturer on ADR, teaches the subject at the De La Salle University School of Law, and is frequently invited by government agencies and private institutions to give lectures on ADR.
He is an accredited arbitrator and mediator of PDRC, the National Arbitration and Mediation (New York), and included in the World Intellectual Property Organization Arbitration and Mediation Center's List of Mediators and Arbitrators . He is also accredited by the Department of Justice - Office for Alternative Dispute Resolution in the fields of arbitration, mediation, and negotiation.
He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), California Arbitration (CalArb), Dispute Resolution Board Foundation (DRBF), Philippine Bar Association (PBA), and the Philippine Institute of Arbitrators (PIArb) where he served as its inaugural Assistant Vice President for Special Interest Groups - Sports. He is a Councilor of the Society of Construction Law Philippines (SCLP) and Co-Chair of its Construction Law Training Program Development Committee. He holds the rank of Major in the Armed Forces of the Philippines - Judge Advocate General Service (JAGS) Reserve.
As a sports lawyer, he assists some of the Philippines' top mixed martial arts (MMA) and Muay Thai fighters, and Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ) athletes.
Atty. Magtibay obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Ateneo de Manila Law School and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from University of California, Berkeley - School of Law where he also received a certificate of specialization in law and technology. He earned his Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Secondary Education degrees from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.
